Mac McClung was named NBA G League player of the week for the period ending March 24 and that’s no surprise.
That’s because the Osceola Magic set a franchise scoring record on March 21 and Mac McClung was the catalyst.
The former Gate City High School star fired in 40 points for the G League team in their 168-133 win over the Birmingham Squadron.
It was a single-game franchise record for Osceola.
It was the second-most points McClung had scored this season. He went for 44 points on Nov. 18.
Seven players scored in double digits for Osceola that night.
“Everyone was just making their shots,” McClung said in a press release. “We’ve got a lot of talented guys on our team. It’s about us locking in and no one begging for the ball; everyone’s focused. This is probably the most talented G League team I’ve ever been on. It’s a lot of fun, and we’re having a good time.”

A 6-foot-2 third-year pro and two-time NBA Slam Dunk contest champion, McClung is averaging 25.5 points, 6.8 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in the regular-season portion of the G League schedule.
McClung is making another run at the next player of the week award as he went for 37 points, four assists, two rebounds and one steal on Monday night in a 136-128 loss to the Iowa Wolves.
Osceola (21-10) has already clinched a G League playoff spot and McClung is among the serious candidates for G League player of the year. The Magic hosts Iowa again on Wednesday night.
