K-State Track Resumes Outdoor Season at WSU and WashU

Four distance runners head to St. Louis, rest of the Wildcats to Wichita

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams compete this week starting on Thursday (March 28) through Saturday (March 30) in St. Louis, Mo and Wichita, Kan.
 
Four distance runners—freshmen Devin Chappel and Josphine Wanjiku and seniors Kerby Depenbusch and Cailan Steward—will race in the WashU Distance Carnival at Bushyhead Track hosted by Washington University in St. Louis.
 
Steward and Wanjiku will race in the women's 5,000 meters at 8:40 p.m. Thursday night, Chappel and Depenbusch running in the men's 5,000 meters on Friday at 6:40 p.m. and 9:20 p.m.
 
The rest of the Wildcats will travel to Wichita for the Shocker Spring Invitational hosted by Wichita State on Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium. Admission is free to the public. A live results link will be posted when available.
 
Field events begin on Friday with the women's hammer throw at 4 p.m., the track events at 8 p.m. with the women's 1,500 meters.
 
On Saturday the day kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with the women's shot put, pole vault and high jump. The women's 4x100 relay will start the track events at 2:00 p.m.
 
The Wildcats started off the outdoor season at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. on March 15-16. Senior Kade McCall set a new men's hammer throw school record at 69.33m/227-5. Four women moved up in the K-State all-time top-10; Wanjiku jumped to 6th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:23.88 and in the shot put, junior Grace Thompson (16.39m/53-9.25) recorded a new best at no. 7, junior Daisy Monie (16.32m/53-6.50) landed at no. 8 and senior Jasmine Greer (15.92m/52-2.75) threw a new best at no. 10.
