SPS hires new McBride Elementary principal, special education leader

Springfield Public Schools has announced two leadership changes that involve three elementary schools.

Erica Rosenbaum, principal of Bissett Elementary, has been named the next principal of McBride Elementary. She will succeed Mykie Nash, who was recently appointed the new director of elementary schools.

Rosenbaum, who will start the new role July 1, joined the district in 2009. She has spent the past four years at Bissett and before that, she was a learning specialist, a blended learning specialist and a kindergarten teacher.

Her undergraduate work in elementary education and graduate work in educational technology were completed at Missouri State University. She has a specialist degree from Arkansas State University.

“I am excited to join the McBride team next year and to continue the great work that is already in progress,” Rosenbaum said, in a news release. “I look forward to getting to know the amazing staff, students, and families at McBride and working together toward success and growth for all students!”

Misty Ramsey, principal of Rountree Elementary, has been named director of special services for grades K-5. She will also start July 1.

Ramsey has been at Rountree for five years. Before that, she was an assistant to the principal at both Bingham and Sherwood. She has also been a principal for the district's summer program, Explore.

She has also worked in the district's special education department, serving as a process coordinator for seven years and as a special education teacher at Hillcrest High School for three years. Hired in 2006, she started her career as a paraprofessional at Reed Academy.

“I am passionate and excited about the opportunity to support our special education students while pouring back into the department that has supported my educational journey and helped me become the leader I am today,” Ramsey said, in the release.

“I look forward to working in partnership with leaders and supporting our hard working special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and process coordinators as they pour back into our students.”

According to the district, there has been a realignment of leadership roles within the special education department. Ramsey will oversee services for K-5 students, Tanya Rapert will continue her role as director of special services for grades 6-12.

Christy Davis continues in her role as director of early childhood education, which includes early childhood special education.

Ramsey has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Missouri State and a specialist degree from Lindenwood University.
