Middletown man charged with assault in stabbing at bar in town of Wallkill

TOWN OF WALLKILL - A Middletown man was accused of stabbing an Ellenville man in the neck at a bar on state Route 17M over the weekend.

Town of Wallkill police said they received a report of an assault at the bar just before 4 a.m. on Saturday.

When police officers responded, they found the victim, a 32-year-old man from Ellenville, bleeding from a stab wound to the neck.

He was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown by an ambulance from Town of Wallkill Emergency Medical Services.

A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Paul Washington, 44, of Middletown.

Washington was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.

Police did not say what they believe was the motive for the stabbing.

Washington was arraigned before Warwick Town Justice Karen Amundson and sent without bail to the Orange County jail, pending further court action.

The name of Washington's attorney was not immediately available.
