A pickup on fire in a field sparked a large grass fire near industrial plants and the Wichita County Jail Wednesday.

Units from the Wichita Falls Fire Department were sent to the area of Sprague Drive and Production Boulevard when the call came in.

When the first trucks arrived, they found a burning 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 stuck in the middle of a three-acre field, according to a press release from the Fire Marshal’s Office.

A burning pickup was responsible for a large grassfire near some industrial plants in Wichita Falls on Wednesday.

The vehicle fire had ignited the tall, dry brush in the field.

More units were called to the scene until 10 trucks arrived and spent two hours extinguishing the blaze and overhauling the scene.

The pickup was owned by an engineering firm doing work on the property, the release said. It was a total loss valued at $25,000.

No injuries or structural damage resulted from the blaze.
