Your credit score plays a significant role in the interest rates you get on loans, what credit cards you’re eligible for and even how much you’ll pay for utilities. If your credit score is less-than-perfect — and, according to Experian, 16% of the population has poor credit, meaning a score between 300 and 579 — you may be considering working with a credit repair company like The Credit People to boost your credit.

Based in Utah, The Credit People was launched in 2001. The company says it has processed over 310,000 credit reports since its inception, but customer reviews are mixed, and its services can be pricey.

In this review, learn about The Credit People’s services, pricing structure and reputation. All rates and fees are current as of March 14, 2024.

Who is The Credit People

The Credit People is best for those who have poor credit with inaccuracies on their credit report who don’t have the time to dispute the charges on their own. As with all credit repair companies, you can legally do all of the things that The Credit People advertises on your own, but working with The Credit People may be a good idea if you’re busy and short on time.

Who shouldn’t use The Credit People?

You shouldn’t use The Credit People if the negative information on your credit report is accurate; no credit repair company can remove accurate, current negative information from your credit reports, so there is little these companies can do to help you. And if you’re low on cash, using a credit repair company may not be a cost-effective strategy; you can do all of the things The Credit People does on your own for free or at a very low cost.

The company offers the following services:

  • Credit reports: Through The Credit People client portal, you can view your credit reports from the major credit bureaus in one place on an ongoing basis.

How The Credit People’s fees work

The Credit People has three plans: Standard, premium and premium flat rate. You pay the fee for the standard and premium plans on a monthly basis, and you can cancel at any time. With the premium flat rate plan, you get six months of service, but you must pay an upfront fee.

  • Standard: $99 per month
  • Premium: $119 per month
  • Premium Flat Rate: $599 for six months of access

There is a trial period available; you can set up an account and start your service for just $19. After the first seven days, if you’d like to continue, you’ll be charged $99 per month (or more if you opt for a higher-tier plan).

Couples may qualify for a discount; If you sign up and your spouse signs up within three days of placing your order, you’ll receive $20 off each of your first payments.

How does working with The Credit People impact credit score

Results of working with The Credit People will vary based on your starting credit score, the issues on your credit report and the success of the dispute and debt validation processes. How long does The Credit People take to improve credit score

Everyone’s situation is different, but The Credit People says most people see results in 45 to 60 days.

Are their risks with credit repair through The Credit People?

The Credit People has been in operation for over 20 years, and it’s a legitimate business. However, its services can be expensive, and there’s no guarantee that the company will be effective.

The Credit People, nor any credit repair company, cannot remove accurate negative information from your credit report. And you can dispute inaccuracies or unauthorized accounts on your own at no cost.

Other services The Credit People offers

Unlike some credit repair or debt relief companies, The Credit People doesn’t offer other services like identity protection or debt consolidation.
