Nabb Presbyterian Church

Nabb Presbyterian Church, at 10814 Hwy. 262, Nabb, will serve a free breakfast, Saturday, March 16 from 7 to 11 a.m. in the church fellowship hall.

Lenten Prayer Breakfast

The Floyd County Men’s Lenten breakfast, a series of breakfast meetings, will continue for the next three Saturdays.

Remaining scheduled for this Easter season is:

• March 16 — Georgetown Christian Church, 9420 IN 64, Georgetown

• March 23 — St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, 5719 St. Marys Rd., Floyds Knobs

• March 30 — Mount Saint Francis, 101 St. Anthony Dr., Mt. St. Francis

The breakfast will begin at 7 a.m., followed by a program. A special offering will be taken each week with the proceeds divided between the Floyd Central Christian Ministries and the Mount Saint Francis Ministries.

Raptor Day at Falls of the Ohio

Falls of the Ohio State Park’s third Raptor Day event will be Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Dwight Chamberlain Raptor Rehab Center at Hardy Lake will bring live birds and offer two different programs. Seating is limited in the auditorium, and tickets will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Live raptors out (not all at one time)

11 a.m. — Raptors of the day with live hawks and other birds

2 p.m. — Predators of the night with live owls

A variety of bird-themed hands-on activities will be offered in the Rotunda, Bird Room and River Room. Bird-watching outside will be weather-dependent.

This event requires regular Interpretive Center admission, which is $9 for ages 12 and older; $7 for ages 5 to 11; younger than age 4 is free. The Indiana State Parks Annual Entrance Pass covers the $2 parking fee but not building admission.

Falls of the Ohio State Park (on.IN.gov/fallsoftheohiosp) is at 201 W. Riverside Dr., Clarksville.

Rivers Edge Healing Rooms

Rivers Edge Healing Rooms of Clarksville will host the Indiana State Healing Rooms Conference from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at 435 W. Stansifer Ave., Clarksville.

Guest speakers will be Peg Willman and Linda Wooten, directors of the Rochester and Warsaw Healing Rooms. This organization is part of the International Association of Healing Rooms based in Spokane, Washington, which was founded in 2001.

Rivers Edge Healing Rooms have been a part of the association since 2010. There are 80 countries hosting a total of 3000 Rooms.

The purpose is to pray for the sick, physically and mentally, for anything they have need of.

The public is invited to come and bring a friend or family member. The event is free of charge but donations are welcome to help cover costs.

Clarksville Library Hosts Afternoon Film

The Clarksville Library will host a feature film on Saturday, March 16, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. This month’s film is a prequel to a popular movie and book trilogy. Viewers will learn the backstory of the series’ villain by going back in time.

German Supper at Shepherd of the Hills

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church is hosting its annual German Supper on Saturday, March 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church.

Tickets at the door are $13 for adults and $5 for children younger than 10. You can save three dollars per ticket if you purchase your tickets before March 13 at Shepherd of the Hills in Georgetown. This year’s menu includes all you can eat fresh Merkley’s sausages, German potato salad, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, breads, desserts, and beverages. Hot dogs and mac & cheese will be available to kids.

St. Patrick’s Celebration

A St. Patrick’s Day Celebration will be Saturday, March 16, from 8 to 11 p.m. at 300 Spring in downtown Jeffersonville. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids 11 to adult age. Children younger than 10 are free. Entry ticket comes with one free beer for adults or a green soft drink for children. Food and drinks for will be available for purchase.

March Computer Classes at The Floyd County Library

The Floyd County Library offers a variety of free computer classes each month, covering a variety of topics. Guests can learn the essential functions of computers, while developing skills in how to use popular software. These classes will take place in the library’s Gallery Meeting Room.

Clark’s Grant Historical SocietyClark’s Grant Historical Society will meet on Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at the Charlestown Public Library, 51 Clark Road, Charlestown.

The program will be “Bicentennial of the Marquis de Lafayette Returning to the US in 1824-1825.”

Bonnie Wise, former member of the Clark’s Grant Historical Society, will give a presentation about the Marquis de Lafayette and the upcoming Bicentennial of his return. In 1824, he was invited by President Monroe to return to America as the last living major-general of the Revolution. He accepted this invitation thinking he would stay three months. His stay turned into 13 months, a visit to all 24 states and traveled over 6,000 miles and nearly 500 stops where he was met with adoring crowds.

Floyd County Library Special Presentation

The Floyd County Library will host a special presentation by John David Anderson, the best-selling author of several critically-acclaimed novels for young people, including “Ms. Bixby’s Last Day,” “Posted,” “Stowaway,” and “One Last Shot.” This family-friendly event will take place on Monday, March 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the library’s upper-level area.

Anderson will talk about the importance of storytelling and how inspiration, curiosity, practice, and perseverance are the keys to being a good storyteller. Anderson received the General Excellence Award for middle grade fiction from the Indiana Authors Awards, which honors the contributions of Hoosier authors to the literary landscape in Indiana and across the nation.

After the presentation, children can enjoy a variety of fun STEM stations inspired by Anderson’s books. They can design their own superhero, build a LEGO spaceship, create a hole for miniature golf, and write positive messages on Post-it notes for others.

A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Anderson spends his days hiking, biking, building Lego, and encouraging young people to read and share their own stories. This event is made possible thanks to the Indiana Authors Awards, powered by Indiana Humanities and Glick Philanthropies.

The Floyd County Libertarian Party monthly meeting will be Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at Beef O’Brady’s, 105 LaFollette Station, Floyds Knobs.

Southern Indiana Senior Golf League

The Southern Indiana Senior Golf League (Old Goats) kickoff breakfast for 2024 will be at 8 a.m., Wednesday, March 20 at A Nice Restaurant at 404 Lafollette Station Dr. South in Floyds Knobs. Those interested are asked to attend the breakfast, meet some of the members and obtain this year’s schedule.

The first scheduled scramble is Wednesday, March 27 at Covered Bridge Golf Course, 12510 Covered Bridge Rd., Sellersburg. Players should arrive at 8 a.m. for a 8:30 a.m. tee time. The annual membership fee is $5.

The league will be playing at many area golf courses during the golf season. This year some new golf courses will be added to the schedule.

Teen Steam and a Snack

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library will host Teen Steam and a Snack on Wednesday, March 20, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at its Clarksville location. Teens will have the opportunity to build with Lego Chain Reactions. Join us for an afternoon of creating with Legos, food, and fun! All supplies will be provided. This program is for grades 6 – 12 and requires registration.

Literary Ladies Book Club

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library will host the Literary Ladies Book Club this month at its Clarksville location. The Literary Ladies Book Club will meet Wednesday, March 20, from 6 to 7 p.m. to discuss the book “Eighty Days: Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland’s History Making Race Around the World” by Matthew Goodman. This club reads women’s literature and books written by female authors.

The Wednesday Readers Book Club will meet on Wednesday, March 27, from 1 to 2 p.m. to discuss the book “One Thousand White Women” by Jim Fergus. This club reads a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction.

S.O.I.L. Health Team Workshop

Clark County’s newly formed S.O.I.L. Health Team is hosting a four-part series of workshops in 2024 on how to use holistic planting and maintenance practices in gardening.

The team is a partnership of the Clark County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Purdue Extension Clark County, and Clarksville Parks & Recreation, and promotes Sustainability, Outreach, Innovation, and Leadership in Clark County.

The next workshop of the series will be March 20 and will focus on “Yardening,” a term coined by guest speaker, Jody Dahmer, of Beargrass Thunder, Louisville. Dahmer will explain how gardeners can grow their own food in urban yards where space may be minimal. He will also offer insight on city ordinances that can affect your gardening plans (commonly known as “weed ordinances”); local municipalities have been invited to share ordinances specific to their areas.

Other workshops in this series are:

April 17 — gardening with native plants and trees, beneficial insects, planning and selecting plants, sight prep, post-planting maintenance, pollinators

August 21 — putting your garden to bed, cover crops, season extension for fall, cool crops

Evening of Music at Floyd County Library

Experience a captivating evening concert featuring Argentinian guitarist and music teacher Manuela Iparraguirre on Wednesday, March 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Floyd County Library. Iparraguirre is an expert in the Suzuki Method of guitar playing, which teaches children to acquire music skills in the same manner as they acquire language skills, immersing learners in the sounds and rhythms of the guitar.

In addition to teaching the Suzuki Method and speaking at multiple international music conventions, Iparraguirre is a member of the Camerata Argentina de Guitarras, one of the most famous guitar ensembles in the world.

During this free concert, she will perform pieces by Francisco Tárrega, Gaspar Sanz, Leo Brouwer, Johann Sebastian Bach and more. All ages are welcome. This concert is made possible thanks to a partnership with the Community Music Alliance and The Floyd County Library.

Community Action of Southern Indiana Open House

Community Action of Southern Indiana is sponsoring an open house on Thursday, March 21, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at CASI’s office at 201 E. 15th St. in Jeffersonville.

There will be tours of CASI’s facilities and Adrian Jamieson, Community Action of Southern Indiana’s new executive director, and CASI’s program managers will be available to meet guests and to answer questions about CASI’s many community-focused programs and initiatives.

The open house will include complimentary drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and a raffle.

Art History, Our Own Hands

Floyd County Library Cultural Arts Center, 201 E. Spring St., New Albany, will sponsor Art History Illustrated, by Our Own Hands, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 21, at the Cultural Arts Center — the feminist art movement of the 1960s through the 1980s.

Family History Research for Beginners II

The Jeffersonville Township Public Library offers many helpful genealogy resources for your family research, many online and most free. Learn where to start to create your family tree and explore the past using birth, marriage, and death records. Join Diane Stepro, Genealogy and Local History Librarian, on Thursday, March 21, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Family and Local History Center at the Jeffersonville location. This presentation is recommended for teen and adult patrons. Family researchers of all skill levels are welcome.

The Great Fire of London

The Vintage Fire Museum will present a special program entitled “The Great Fire of London” on Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, March 24 at 3 p.m. The event will feature a presentation by retired firefighter Don Coomer on the 1666 fire that destroyed most of the old city of London. This devastating fire “changed firefighting forever.”

Accompanying exhibit items will feature photos and descriptions of artifacts tied to the devastating fire. These items will be in the Museum for the next few months.

The program will take place at the Museum, 706 Spring Street, Jeffersonville. Admission is $7; members are free.

Clarksville Library Hosting Advanced Crochet

The Clarksville Library will host Advanced Crochet Club on Friday, March 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. at its Clarksville location. Instructor Kim Lillis will lead the group on how to make a hexagon blanket. Please bring the following supplies for this class: three different yarn colors of your choice, worsted weight #4.
