Greeneville assistant police chief found not guilty on domestic violence charge

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — Assistant Police Chief of the Greeneville Police Department (GPD) Steve Hixson has been acquitted of a domestic violence charge.

Chief of Police Steve Spano announced Thursday that Hixson was found not guilty on all charges by a Greene County Jury.

“In light of the verdict, I [Spano], along with Assistant Chief Hixson and the Greeneville Police Department are committed to upholding the highest standards of accountability and integrity within the department,” Spano said in the release. “This outcome reaffirms his innocence throughout the entire process and continues to show the importance of a fair and impartial judicial system in addressing allegations of misconduct.”

Hixson was previously charged after he was accused of assaulting a family member during an argument in December 2022. He was placed on leave with the GPD pending the outcome of an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

As of Thursday, Hixson has been placed back on full duty status as an officer with the GPD, the release stated.
