THERE is severe disruption on the railway due to an emergency incident this morning, Tuesday.

Northern, Transport for Wales and Avanti West Coast services are being cancelled and delayed between Frodsham and Earlestown as a result.

Police have now confirmed that this is due to a death on the tracks.

Emergency services attended, however the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Warrington Bank Quay station at 10.29am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A Northern travel notice states: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Chester and Manchester Victoria, all lines are blocked.

“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

“Services are currently unable to run in both directions, however services between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester are unaffected by this disruption.

“Ticket restrictions have been lifted during this disruption. Rail replacement has been requested but not yet confirmed.

“For customers on station platforms, please listen for announcements or consult customer information screens for up-to-date train running information.”

A spokesman for Avanti West Coast said: “Due to emergency services managing a situation between Warrington Bank Quay and Crewe, this line is blocked.

“Please check your journey before you travel.”
