THE STUDENT, A 17 YEAR OLD, A MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL’S BASEBALL TEAM, ON SUNDAY, THE BERNALILLO COUNTY SHERIFFS WERE CALLED TO THE SCHOOL AFTER TWO GIRLS SAW THE TEEN COLLAPSE ON THE TRACK. THE BOY WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND DIED. TODAY, THE PRINCIPAL SAYS THEIR WEEKLY MESSAGE TO STUDENTS BEFORE SPRING BREAK INCLUDED RESOURCES THEY DIDN’T YET KNOW THEY NEEDED. ON SUNDAY. A 17-year-old baseball player from Rio Grande High School died Tuesday after an incident on the track this week. Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department confirmed that the teen was seen running when he suddenly collapsed on Sunday. Two girls leaving the track called 911. Deputies and medical crews found him not breathing. He was taken to UNM Hospital, where he died. In a letter to families, Albuquerque Public Schools said they will have counselors and other support staff available to students, teachers and parents when students return to class on April 8. "One of the most helpful things you can do for your student is to listen," Principal Antoinette Valenzuela said. "If they want to talk, answer questions simply, honestly, and be prepared to answer the same questions repeatedly."The team coach confirms they are planning to honor his memory at the game on Wednesday. The team will face Eldorado starting at 3:30 p.m.
