Commanders Sign Marcus Mariota; Still QB at No. 2?
The Washington Commanders continued to add pieces to their roster as the new era under Josh Harris and Co. has gotten off to a decent start.
Washington's latest move, a one-year deal for quarterback Marcus Mariota, which has a base salary of $6 million and could rise to $10 million, is a good piece of business.
With Sam Howell and Mariota on the roster after Jacoby Brissett landed back in New England, did the Commanders hint at what they would do come draft night?
There had been rumors that the Commanders would try and trade Howell, as having him as a backup to the drafted quarterback didn't seem logical.
But now, Mariota, who has nine years of experience in the NFL, is likely seen as the mentor for whichever quarterback the Commanders select.

Of course, there is still a chance that Howell remains on the roster as teams can now dress three quarterbacks on gameday (third is technically inactive), so Kliff Kingsbury's offense will be set at the quarterback position.
Washington has had several nice moves to begin free agency, as Zach Ertz, Dorance Armstrong, Tyler Biadasz, Frankie Luvu, Austin Ekeler, Brandon McManus, Nick Allegretti, Clelin Ferrell, Marcus Mariota, Dante Fowler, Tyler Ott, and Jeremy Chinn all come to the franchise.
While the Commanders might have overpaid for some of their signings, but general manager Adam Peters stated that the team would look to build through the draft and add some free agents - they have done just that.
So far, the game plan for Washington has been on point, and the fanbase can be happy with the deals made thus far, and it doesn't appear that the organization is done yet, either.
The Commanders entered a defining offseason for the franchise and were armed with the financial resources to do some serious business and have loosened the purse strings as no less than 12 new players have signed on.
Washington has begun its new era with a bang.
