With the week coming to an end, we discuss the biggest headlines of the week with our panel of local newspeople.

Among the topics discussed:

  • Josue Garriga, a police officer who fatally shot FAMU student Jamee Johnson in 2019, has been arrested in a separate case. He is accused of sex crimes that involve a teenager he met at church. He has pleaded not guilty.
  • The trial of two former JEA executives has concluded, resulting in the conviction of former CEO Aaron Zahn. It was revealed that JEA was required to cover Zahn’s legal costs up to $250,000, with AEGIS Insurance Services covering any amount above that.
  • The Jacksonville police union is advocating for a pay raise for its officers, emphasizing that officers are significantly underpaid. They also have criticized Mayor Donna Deegan's office for what they perceive as a slow pace in negotiation efforts.
  • Gov. Ron DeSantis signed HB 3 on Monday in Jacksonville, banning kids under the age of 14 from using social media apps like Snapchat and TikTok.

Panel:
