8 Delicious Ways To Savor Cherry Blossom Season

Following

Cherry Blossom season is always a beautiful time to visit an area where they flourish, as it fills the springtime views with beautiful pink blooms. These flowers, also known as sakura, are actually native to Japan, but another great place to spot them is right in Washington, DC.

Washington, DC, has thousands of blooming cherry trees and is even home to the National Cherry Blossom Festival. To that end, some spots around the city are giving Cherry Blossoms honor with some special tastes.

At The Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City, there’s the The Ultimate Cherry Blossom Experience Package package currently available in honor of Cherry Blossom season.

The experience, created in collaboration with Picnic & Peonies, known for creating super-luxury picnics, is available through April 20, and includes, in addition to an overnight stay in a luxury suite that has views of DC landmarks like the Pentagon, a Cherry Blossom-themed picnic experience delivered right to the hotel suite.

The picnic basket will come packed with romantic touches such as prosecco, a fancy charcuterie board, and macarons.

For those who want even more Cherry Blossoms in their visit, there’s also a Cherry Blossom afternoon tea experience available at the property, which will include sparkling wine, Cherry Blossom-inspired tea sandwiches, scones, and luxury teas.

Similarly, The Morrow Hotel is partnering with LoveShackFancy for their own picnic package in honor of the season. The Petals & Picnics Package includes a curated picnic under the blossoms, and a LoveShackFancy blanket to take home.

There’s nothing like a classic. At Willard InterContinental Washington, D.C., there’s a Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea, which has been offered since the 1920s. This luxurious take on afternoon tea has a menu that includes options like Marinated Lobster Salad on pâte brisée, Cranberry Chicken Salad with lemon zest on a brioche bun, Smoked Duck Breast with cherry jam and brandy cherry on a beet onion baguette, scones, as well as Lychee Strawberry Mousse, Yuzu Meringue Choux, and Valrhona Jivara Chocolate & Mandarin Tart.

At Westin Washington, DC Downtown, on-site signature restaurant Root and Vine, has two menu items in honor of the Cherry Blossom Festival. This includes the Sakura Spritz, which is made with Roku Gin, Lillet Rosé, salted sakura, and sparkling wine , as well as a limited-time dessert of edible “cherry blossoms”— this is a Cherry Panna Cotta with cherry gelee and ruby chocolate madeleine by Pastry Chef, Yodit Solomon. The property is also offering a Bike the Sites package (done in partnership with DC Insider Tours) that includes a a guided electric bike tour to view the blooms as well as a hef-designed wellness lunch from Root and Vine.

Elsewhere in the area, micro-bar Society inside the Hamilton Hotel is honoring Cherry Blossom season with a floral pop-up and a dedicated Cherry Blossom cocktail, made with sake, cherry liqueur, gin, Gran Marnier, grenadine, and lemon.

When it’s time for dessert, the newly opened Tipsy Scoop DC has a limited-edition Cherry Blossom Old Fashioned flavor. This boozy ice cream is infused with Hatozaki Whisky, yuzu bitters, and lemon.

For those not in the DC area though, there’s other places around the country to share some cherry blossom love without booking a flight to Japan. Right in New York City, cherry blossoms are popping up everywhere – best seen in the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens (they even have a fun cherry tracker!).

In tribute to all the bloom around them, NYC-based Sake No Hana is currently offering a Cherry Blossom Dessert Platter that celebrates the season. The dessert platter includes six desserts, including a Matcha Swiss Roll, Praline Dorayaki, Choco Banana, Raspberry Mochi, Lychee Coconut Jelly, and a Strawberry Profiterole with sakura strawberry cream.
