Deputies shoot, kill suspect during ‘high-risk search warrant’ in Mesa

MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — A suspect wanted in connection to a “high-risk search warrant” was shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies early Thursday morning in Mesa.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were searching for an “armed and dangerous” suspect with SWAT crews at a home in the area of Ellsworth Road and just north of Main Street around 3 a.m. As the search warrant was executed, authorities said the man fired shots toward law enforcement and then barricaded himself inside.

Deputies said that a short time later, the suspect came outside of the house armed with a rifle and then confronted three SWAT members. At that point, deputies shot at the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

No deputies were hurt. Other information, including the suspect’s name, has not yet been released.

This is the 15th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County and 21st statewide this year.
