GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Three people were hurt, including a baby, and numerous others have been displaced after an apartment building caught fire late Thursday morning in Glendale.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control a short time later. Glendale Fire Dept. Captain Kyle Borg says a woman who fell and an infant who was burned were taken to a hospital with what are described as minor injuries. A man was also treated by medics at the scene but was not transported.

Investigators believe the fire started in a kitchen while someone was cooking. The fire then spread into the attic and damaged at least three other apartment units.

In all, 15 people have been displaced.

“We just want to remind homeowners of the importance of not walking away from a hot stove, not walking away from something in the oven,” Capt. Borg said. “And just as importantly, is keeping an appropriate fire extinguisher on hand.”
