THE WAY. WELL, DEVELOPING TONIGHT, CINCINNATI POLICE NOW INVESTIGATING A RUMPKE DRIVER’S DEATH AS A HOMICIDE. THANKS FOR JOINING US AT TEN. I’M CHRIS JACOBS ON HEALTH. FLORES WAS SHOT AND KILLED WHILE ON THE JOB. HE WAS FOUND DEAD INSIDE HIS TRUCK ALONG EAST LAWN DRIVE IN ROSELAWN THIS MORNING. WLWT NEWS FIVE’S RACHEL HERXHEIMER JOINS US LIVE FROM DISTRICT FOUR WITH WHAT WE’RE LEARNING FROM POLICE. RACHEL. WELL, CHRIS, CINCINNATI POLICE OFFICERS ARE SEARCHING FOR THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR SHOOTING AND KILLING 30 YEAR-OLD ANGEL FLORES. WHILE HE WAS JUST SITTING IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT OF A RUMPKE TRUCK. TODAY, SHATTERED GLASS AT THE CRIME SCENE IS A PIECE OF THE PUZZLE AFTER A MAN WAS FOUND LIFELESS IN ROSELAWN. THERE IS A DUMP TRUCK WITH THE DRIVER SLUMPED OVER WITH A BROKEN WINDOW IN THE PARKING LOT. POLICE WERE CALLED TO EAST LAWN DRIVE FOR A PERSON DEAD INSIDE A RUNNING RUMPKE TRUCK. THE INVESTIGATION QUICKLY TURNED INTO A HOMICIDE COMPLAINT AND ADVISED THAT THE DUMP TRUCK AND THE DRIVER HAVE BEEN THERE ALL NIGHT, CINCINNATI POLICE SAY 33 YEAR OLD ANGEL FLORES WAS FOUND INSIDE THIS TRUCK DEAD FROM A GUNSHOT WOUND. THEY HAVE NO SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY. CHANGE AROUND HERE. PEOPLE NEED TO COME TOGETHER AROUND HER, AND PEOPLE NEED TO STOP HATING ON EACH OTHER. GARY CURTIS HAS LIVED IN THIS AREA FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS. HE TELLS US HE SAW POLICE AT THE SCENE TODAY COMBING THROUGH EVIDENCE. THE NEIGHBORHOOD HADN’T CHANGED A LOT. NOW THEY CALL IT DEATH ROW BECAUSE I JUST HAD A FRIEND WHO JUST DIED UP HERE A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. WE SPOKE TO SOMEONE WHO KNEW FLORES BUT DIDN’T WANT TO GO ON CAMERA. THEY TELL US HE WAS A HUSBAND AND FATHER TO TWO CHILDREN WHO WORKED AT RUMPKE FOR A LONG TIME. THE COMPANY TELLS US IN A STATEMENT, SAYING IN PART, NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR TEAM MEMBERS AND THEIR SAFETY. WE ARE A CLOSE TEAM AND TODAY ALL OF OUR HEARTS ARE BROKEN. OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH THE FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COWORKERS OF OUR DRIVER. AND SO FAR, NOBODY IS IN CUSTODY. Police ID Rumpke driver found dead in truck in Roselawn; Homicide Unit investigating
Police are investigating after a Rumpke driver was found dead on Monday.According to police, CPD's Criminal Investigations Section responded to the 7100 block of Eastlawn Drive for a death investigation on Monday morning.Arriving officers located a victim inside a Rumpke truck suffering from a gunshot wound. Cincinnati Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and determined the victim to be deceased. The victim has been identified by police as Angel Flores, 30.Officials said the investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit is ongoing. "Things need to change around here. People need to come together around here, and people need to stop hating on each other," nearby resident Gary Curtis said.Curtis said he's lived in this area for more than 20 years. He tells us he saw police at the scene Monday, combing through evidence. "This neighborhood, it has changed a lot. Now they call it death row because I just had a friend who died here a couple of days ago," Curtis said.Later on Monday, Rumpke released a statement to WLWT, saying in part, "We appreciate the Cincinnati Police Department's quick response and we will work closely with them as they conduct this investigation." The statement continued, saying, "Nothing is more important than our team members and their safety. We are a close team, and today, all of our hearts are broken. Our thoughts are with the family, friends and co-workers of our driver. We will be working with our Employee Assistance Program to make sure our team members have resources available as they come to terms with today's incident and grieve for the loss of a friend."The investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department's Homicide Unit is ongoing.
