Tuesday, March 19 is Election Day. If you haven't noticed the signs, mailers and in some cases the TV commercials, you either live under a rock or in an unincorporated part of Palm Beach County. Regardless, on that day voters living in incorporated areas will have the opportunity to go to the polls and decide on their municipalities' future.

By all means, take advantage of it.

Vote. Make your choices known for your community's commission or council. Take a stand on any ballot question. You've heard the old adage that your vote is your voice. It's particularly true when the votes hit close to home.

Make your vote count. March 19 is Election Day for 23 municipalities in Palm Beach County.

Municipal elections in 23 of Palm Beach County's 39 incorporated cities, towns and villages

There are municipal elections in 23 of the county's 39 incorporated cities, towns and villages. Three communities — North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington — have annexation questions for voters living in nearby neighborhoods in unincorporated parts of the county. Three other municipalities — Highland Beach, Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach — have ballot questions ranging from run-for-office requirements to infrastructure projects.

The elected commissioners and councilmembers are responsible for your municipality's future. They are the ones responsible for oversight and direction to staff in handling a myriad of jobs, from police and fire to parks and recreation. They are also the ones representing you before other government bodies, like adjacent communities, the county commission and the Florida Legislature. Who speaks for you should be important.

It's not like voting is difficult. Residents have three ways to cast their ballots — by mail, going to the polls early or on Election Day. While the deadlines to request a mal-in ballot, or to return one by mail have passed, voters who have completed their mail-in ballots can return them to one of four Supervisor of Elections offices or at any of the 23 early voting sites. Early voting runs from March 9 through March 17. Election Day voting runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19.

Nearly 500,000 voters are eligible to participate. Make sure you're one of them. It's that important.
