SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Easter is just a few days away and grocery stores in Sioux Falls are getting ready for shoppers.

“We can definitely tell everybody’s gearing up for Easter,” said Chad Dyhrkopp, store director for the South Minnesota Avenue Hy-Vee. “Easter is kind of a four-day holiday. It starts today and kind of ends Sunday about noon and everybody’s at home enjoying Easter with their family by then.”

Hy-Vee has a few options for people looking to stock up on their Easter dinner essentials. This year, the grocery chain is offering a $30 Easter meal pack complete with a bag of potatoes, dinner rolls, canned green beans, mushroom soup and gravy, along with half a ham.

“Somebody can come in and we have the bags all set up with the flyers of everything that goes in that $30 meal pack. So, basically, you can add the ham to that and away you go,” Dyhrkopp said.

Elaine Totman was shopping for Easter at Hy-Vee Thursday morning. She said this year, it will only be her and her husband as her family isn’t doing anything too big for the holiday.

“I did get a ham though, because that’s what you get, what you have on Easter Sunday,” Totman said.

Hy-Vee is also offering hot and ready Easter meals through the catering department. Dyhrkopp said options for the catered meals include traditional ham or turkey feasts that serve between six and 12 people, as well as smaller ham or turkey dinners for two or four people.

“For us, it’s all about trying to figure out ways to accommodate any family for Easter,” he said. “Whether it’s a family of two or a family of six to 12, and whatever budget they might have for Easter also.”

The annual Easter brunch at the South Minnesota Hy-Vee is Sunday, March 31 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adults cost $25, children from 6-12 years old are $8 and anyone under six eats for free.

“We enjoy doing this every year, hosting families for Easter,” Dyhrkopp said. “It’s everything from ham, or chicken, the traditional breakfast. Each store can have a little bit of their own spin on it also, so it’ll be a big traditional Easter brunch done up right.”

Franklin Food Market will be open until 2 p.m. Easter Sunday. The Cliff Avenue grocery store is running deals on their Easter dinner staples from March 27 to April 2. Russet potatoes are on sale for $2.49 for a 10-pound bag, shank ham portions are $1.79 a pound and asparagus is $1.49 a pound.

Sunshine Foods on 2nd Avenue will have normal business hours on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunshine’s Easter deals include Hormel bone-in half ham for $2.77 a pound, $2 off a 10-pound bag of potatoes, 77-cent Jiffy cornbread mix and 69 cent canned vegetables.
