Community Healthcare System will host a women's retreat to encourage self-care, health, mindfulness and balance.
The Empowering Women’s Retreat will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 20 at The Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road in Munster.
It's free and open to the public.
Dr. Lamia Katbi will give a keynote address at the Empowering Women's Retreat about how to manage stress and prioritize one's physical and mental health to manage stress. The event also will include exhibits, health screenings and breakout sessions.
The first breakout session will cover self-care through self-defense, asking doctors intimate inquires and pocketbook planning. The second breakout session covers mindful meditation, chair yoga, diet and cultivation of emotional health.

"Join other women as you focus on yourself and enhance your personal wellness journey. Participate in interactive sessions to help you center your mind and learn to better prepare for stressful situations," Community Healthcare System said in a press release. "Gain valuable health tips from exhibitors, participate in screenings to find ways to improve your health and take home items that will help with your self-care journey. Free A1C and lipid profiles will be offered (a 12-hour fast is required)."
Anyone interested must register by April 12 and must choose their breakout sessions when they register.
