Man killed in wrong-way crash; woman suspected of DUI arrested

BONSALL, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man killed in a wrong-way Bonsall crash over the weekend resulted in the arrest of a suspected DUI driver, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 11:24 p.m. on Gopher Canyon Road, east of Hoxie Ranch Road, Officer Hunter Gerber with the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Thursday.

Authorities say a 29-year-old Valley Center woman, identified as Janely Magali Bautista, was driving a brown Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Gopher Canyon Road when she turned into the westbound traffic lane and crashed into a white Toyota Camry.

When first responders arrived on scene, the driver of the Toyota, a 51-year-old woman of Vista, and her 52-year-old male passenger were taken to the hospital. Gerber confirmed the man died while the Toyota driver suffered major injuries.

Bautista, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of murder, felony driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter, according to CHP.

Both lanes of Gopher Canyon Road were closed during the crash investigation.
