A worker died on Terminal Island after becoming trapped under a forklift Monday morning, March 18, authorities said.

Los Angeles city firefighters were called to Berth 270, just off Barracuda Street, about 10:40 a.m. and found the worker already dead, LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange said.

Urban Search and Rescue specialists were continuing to safely remove the heave machinery from the site to allow law enforcement, CalOSHA and the Medical Examiner’s office to investigate, Prange said.

How the worker became trapped under the forklift was not known.

Further information about the worker was not available.
