Construction worker dies after falling into 20-foot shaft in Orange County
BREAKING NEWS AND THAT BREAKING NEWS A MAN IS DEAD AFTER FALLING DOWN A 20 FOOT SHAFT IN A CONSTRUCTION AREA RIGHT NEAR CENTRAL FLORIDA PARKWAY AND PALM PARKWAY. THIS IS AN ORANGE COUNTY IN THE HEART OF THE TOURIST DISTRICT. WESH HAYLEY CROMBLEHOLME JOINS US LIVE AT THE SCENE WITH WHAT INVESTIGATORS SAY HAPPENED. HAYLEY. SO JUST WITHIN THE LAST HOUR, THE ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TOLD US THEY BELIEVE A WORKER AT THIS CONSTRUCTION SITE WAS STRUCK BY SOMETHING AN ORANGE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE SAID THEY HAD TO DO A TECHNICAL RESCUE TO GET THIS PERSON OUT. NOW, MOST OF THE FIRST RESPONDERS HAVE CLEARED OUT AT THIS POINT, EXCEPT FOR SOME CRUISERS AND A CRIME SCENE VAN. BUT YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THESE PEOPLE INVEST HERE. WE’VE SEEN OSHA ON SITE LOOKING INTO WHAT HAPPENED, AND IF WE PAN A BIT TO THE RIGHT HERE, THIS BEHIND US SEEMS TO BE THE SHAFT THAT THEY WERE WORKING TO GET THIS PERSON OUT OF. NOW, CHOPPER TWO FLEW OVERHEAD AND CAUGHT SOME OF THE RESCUE. YOU CAN SEE SOMEONE ABOVE THE SHAFT AS CREWS ARE WORKING WITHIN IT. IT LOOKS TO HAVE INVOLVED MORE THAN A DOZEN. FIRST RESPONDER IS NOW ORANGE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE SAID. ULTIMATELY, ONE PERSON WAS TAKEN TO ADVENTHEALTH PALM PARKWAY. E.R. WE NOW KNOW THAT THAT PERSON HAS DIED. NOW, LIKE I SAID, OSHA IS HERE ON SITE INVESTIGATING. WE HAVE REACHED OUT TO THEM AS WELL AS THE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY THAT WE BELIEVE THIS SITE BELONGS TO. A worker at a construction site died after falling it a 20-foot shaft on Wednesday.According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a construction site in the area of Central Florida Parkway and Palm Parkway at noon in response to a man-down call.Orange County Fire Rescue said they were able to access the person who fell, but deputies said he died later at the hospital.OCSO said they think the worker was struck by something and added they have no reason to believe there was foul play involved. This incident is still under investigation, deputies said. OSHA confirmed they opened an inspection after the incident.
