Olcott man found dead in town of Alabama, police investigating 'apparent homicide'

Mar. 21—OAKFIELD — The Genesee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an Olcott man in the town of Alabama.

The body of Michael G. Poole, 59, was found by police Tuesday afternoon. Poole's death currently is being investigated as "an apparent homicide," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Police found Poole's body while looking into a missing person case that originated in Niagara County.

The sheriff's statement did not indicate whether Poole was the subject of the missing person investigation. Contacted by the Union-Sun & Journal for more information, Sheriff William Sheron's secretary Carolyn Della Penna said no additional details are being released while the investigation of Poole's death continues.

The sheriff's statement said Poole's death was "an isolated incident and ... there is not a threat to the public."
