This Charlize Theron-Used Hair Oil Restores the “Shine of Youth,” Per 60-Year-Old Shoppers

There have been years where I truly could not have cared less about the Oscars, but something about this year’s 96th Academy Awards was different. I was incredibly invested in which actors and films were going to win the big awards (my favorites, The Zone of Interest, Oppenheimer, and Poor Things, did well), the red carpet fashion was opulent, glamorous, and divine — some years, it’s truly a snoozefest — and the beauty looks didn’t disappoint either. I was especially taken by Charlize Theron’s decadent jewels, which were highlighted by her slicked-back low bun, courtesy of Olaplex. 

Olaplex is the haircare brand to the stars; besides Theron, it was used on Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, and Kirsten Dunst at the 2024 Oscars. Celebrity hairstylist Renato Campora used six Olaplex products on Theron, but claimed the No. 7 Bonding Oil as his favorite — as a recent Olaplex devotee, it’s one of mine too. 

Campora likes the Olaplex oil because it’s a “hydrating and lightweight” three-in-one formula that serves as a leave-in conditioner, styling product, and heat-protectant. The crux of the ingredient list is the brand’s proprietary bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, the titular bond-repairer, which protects from heat, frizz, and environmental stressors, and heals broken, damaged, and split strands. 

Many of the 38,000-plus five-star shoppers call Olaplex’s $30 No. 7 Bonding Oil a “miracle.” A 60-year-old shopper with “brittle” hair says this has given “the shine of youth” back to their strands. Another shopper said they used No. 7 Bonding Oil to grow out their hair post-COVID-19, noting that it “finally” decreased their shedding and made their strands “shiny and smooth.”
