JANESVILLE, Wis. -- The Janesville Police Department said a person died from crashing into a building and a utility pole after being pursued earlier in the evening by police officers. The pursuit had ended before the crash occurred.
At 6:39 p.m. on Thursday, dispatch received a call about a sport utility vehicle speeding northbound on North Oakhill Ave. near Linden Ave. An officer arrived but couldn't locate the suspect vehicle.
Police said at about 7:13 p.m., a patrol officer attempted to pull over the vehicle when they found it driving southbound on N. Parker Dr. at Blackridge Rd.
Police said the officer tried pulling the car over but the car sped up, and the officer engaged in a pursuit. When the officer lost sight of the vehicle, they ended the pursuit.
Police said a short time later, dispatch received a call about a rollover crash on S. Pearl St. near W. Court St.
Janesville police and fire responded to the scene, where they found the suspect vehicle crashed into a building and utility pole.
The driver was the only person in the vehicle and died at the scene.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting the Janesville Police Dept. with the crash investigation.Â
Police said the Rock County Medical Examiner will release the name of the driver at a later date.
