Chris Hemsworth held Matt Damon’s hand as he got a new tattoo

Longtime pals Matt Damon and Chris Hemsworth got tattoos together before the Oscars.

When Matt Damon got a new tattoo earlier this month, he was glad to have a helping hand from his pal Chris Hemsworth.

In photos posted on Instagram by Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Trudy Lines (real name Corina Weikl), Hemsworth, Damon, and Hemsworth’s wife Elsa Pataky can all be seen getting poolside tattoos. Laying in a patio chair, Damon clasps the “Thor” actor’s hand while Pataky and Damon’s wife Luciana Damon (née Barroso) look on.

“Pre-game hangs before the Oscars with @chrishemsworth @elsapataky #mattdamon @dameluce,” Weikl wrote. “I love my job. Thank you for being so great @chrishemsworth & @elsapataky.”

Matt Damon and Chris Hemsworth’s friendship

Damon and Hemsworth don’t just get tattoos together: The actors and their wives frequently vacation together as well, whether on a wintry excursion to Montana or one of many trips to Hemsworth’s home country of Australia.

Damon and Barroso visited Australia so many times that Damon’s publicist had to put out a statement denying that he was moving to Australia in 2018.

Barroso and Pataky are particularly close, with Pataky telling Entertaiment Tonight in 2018 that she and Barroso got matching tattoos.

“It’s three dots that means today, tomorrow and forever,” Pataky told ET. “It’s to remember moments. … When I have a great moment with people that I love, it’s good to remember those moments and have them on your body to just say they mean a lot to me.”

Damon is no stranger to getting tattoos either. In 2019, he visited celebrity tattoo artist Daniel “Winter Stone” Winter to get the names of his four daughters — Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella — tattooed in cursive on his right arm. The actor also has “Lucy” tattooed on his right arm for Barroso.

In 2023, Damon visited Winter again for a tattoo honoring his late father, Kent. Winter inked the word “nomad” (also “Damon” backwards) on Damon’s right arm.
