Kissimmee woman dies, Haines City man seriously injured in collision east of Haines City

A Kissimmee woman was killed and a Haines City man seriously injured when two cars collided on Cypress Parkway east of Haines City on Wednesday morning.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. near Lake Marion Creek Road. At the scene, first responders from the Sheriff's Office and Polk County Fire Rescue found Vilmarie Munet, 42, of Kissimmee dead in her car. The driver of the other vehicle, Jose Cirilo Martinez-Hernandez, 54, of Haines City suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

According the evidence and witness statements, the Sheriff's Office said it appears Munet was driving west on Cypress Parkway in a 2013 Toyota Camry, when she crossed the center line. Martinez-Hernandez, who was driving east in 2011 Camry, attempted to swerve but couldn't avoid a collision.

The Sheriff's Office said neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. Cypress Parkway was closed for about four hours.
