Overland Park police ask for community’s help in reducing shoplifting
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Overland Park police said they’re receiving an increase in shoplifting calls and they need the community’s help.
According to police, the crimes are being committed by groups outside the metro area.

Officer John Lacy said organized retail criminals are targeting Johnson County, specifically Overland Park because it’s a rich shopping environment like the Oak Park Mall.
Retailers and the police are working to cut down on “organized retail crimes” by hiring loss prevention officers, using surveillance video and undercover officers. They are also hoping to get help from the public.

To keep the public safe, police recommend not confronting them. Instead, keep an eye out for what they’re wearing or what car kind of car they are driving.
Police said the groups make lots of money selling what they steal on the black market, including things like cell phones, designer purses and sports jerseys.
