St. John’s Christian plated a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge Calhoun Academy in a baseball game Monday, March 25, in Moncks Corner.

Mason Ritter singled to lead off the Cavaliers’ at-bat and eventually scored on an error with two outs.

St. John’s Christian leadoff hitter Sumter Moorer was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Ritter went 2-for-3 with a RBI and threw the first seven innings, striking out nine batters. He allowed three hits and no earned runs.

Black hurled the top of the eighth to garner the win in relief.

The win was the fourth in five games for the Cavaliers (7-4). They take on Calhoun again Friday, March 29 (after press time).

Berkeley 4

Wando 0

Senior pitcher Cole Greer threw 6.2 innings and struck out 12 batters to lead Berkeley past Wando in a Region 6-5A baseball game Monday, March 25, in Moncks Corner.

Stags leadoff hitter Mason Salisbury, a catcher, drove in two runs and infielder Hudson Clark was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Relief pitcher Reed Driggers finished off the shutout for Berkeley with a strikeout. 

The Stags (9-4) and Warriors also met Tuesday, March 26, in Mount Pleasant.

Wando doubled up Berkeley, 6-3, to even the series, which winds down Friday, March 29, in Moncks Corner (after press time).

Salisbury, Greer and third baseman Connor Barham knocked in runs for the Stags. Infielder Gavin Edens was 2-for-3.

Stratford baseball 9

Cane Bay 3

Stratford High School’s baseball team won for the fifth time in six games. It claimed its first Region 6-5A series of the spring Tuesday, March 26, with a 9-3 victory over visiting Cane Bay.

Stratford won the series opener a day earlier, coasting past the Cobras 11-0 in five innings.

The Knights (6-7, 2-0 region) try to complete the sweep Friday, March 29 (after press time).

In game two of the series, leadoff hitter Jachin Davis collected two hits and three RBIs and earned the win on the mound. The Knights built up a 7-0 lead over Davis’ three innings.

Catcher Braydon Burnett added two RBIs for Stratford.

Outfielder Anthony Alvarez knocked in two runs for Cane Bay (5-5, 0-5 region), which is still seeking its first region victory.

In game one, Stratford pitcher Jarrett Wagner struck out 11 batters and allowed just one hit over five innings. Davis, Wagner, and infielder Gavin Garcia each tallied two hits, with Davis knocking in three runs.

Goose Creek 1

Alley Bertram, Olivia Fleming and Emma Tycheck knocked in two runs each to pace the Cane Bay softball team in a 9-1 victory Tuesday, March 26, against Goose Creek in a Region 6-5A matchup.

The Cobras improved to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the region.

Kalli Peake tallied two hits for Goose Creek.

Stratford boys soccer 4

Stratford’s boys soccer team blanked Berkeley in a Region 6-5A soccer match Tuesday, March 26, in Moncks Corner.

The Knights (8-3-1, 3-0 region) are on a three-game shutout streak, the first since the 2020-21 season. They finish the first rotation through region play Thursday, March 28 (after press time), at home against crosstown rival Goose Creek.

Keepers Enzo Mori and James Bowers recorded the shutout in goal for the Knights. Vinny Teixeira, Jackson McNeil, Silas Miller and Brandon Martinez tallied the goals.

Berkeley’s girls soccer team blanked Stratford in a Region 6-5A match Tuesday, March 26, in Goose Creek.

The Stags improved to 4-7-1 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Claire Orth and Eiliyah Tomes each scored four goals for the Cane Bay girls soccer team during a 9-1 victory Tuesday, March 26, in a non-region match.

Makayla Coppus added the other goal for the Cobras (6-5, 2-1 region).
