An investigation has been launched after a woman’s body was discovered in Co Monaghan.

The body of the woman in her 20s was recovered from the Ulster Canal in Monaghan town at around 8.30am on Sunday.

The body has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan, Co Meath.

A most-mortem examination has been arranged. The results of the examination will determine the course of the garda investigation.

A garda spokesman said no further information is available at this time.
