Just before 5 a.m., Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD) officers responded to the 3600 block of Powder Mill Road for a crash involving a pedestrian.

Once on the scene, police discovered a woman in the roadway. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police are working to determine the cause of the crash. Officials said the driver of the involved vehicle remained on the scene.

At the time of the investigation, high school students were walking to class and busses were dropping off students. 7News reached out to PGPD to check if classes were delayed due to the incident outside the school. Below is their full response:

"The High Point High School security team worked with Prince George’s County Police Department to close the street. We also rerouted students who were walking to campus and delayed the start of 1st period to move students to central locations (cafeteria and auditorium). This allowed us to gauge students’ well-being prior to beginning the school day. The scene of the accident was cleared by 7:45 am. Students were released to class at 8:15 am. Additional mental health support will be available to students as needed."
