MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A sanitary sewer overflow occurred last week at the University of Mobile, the Alabama Department of Emergency Management reported.

The overflow happened at the school on Friday, March 22.

“The cause of the discharge is reported to have been the downstream line having a partial blockage of sanitary wipes and grease,” a press release said.

Health officials said the discharge occurred north and northeast of the School of Christian Studies, and the ground absorbed about 3,000 gallons of wastewater.

OVERFLOW LOCATION:

Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Philip Michaels advised “residents to take precautions when coming into contact with any standing water that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.”
