Police are investigating a shooting that stemmed from an argument outside of a bar in downtown Lawrence overnight Saturday.
According to the Lawrence Police Department, no one was hurt or killed in the late-night argument that happened around 2 a.m. in the 700 block of Massachusetts Street.
Officers working nearby responded to the scene after they heard gunshots.
Lawrence police called the scene chaotic on Facebook in a post detailing the investigation.
“It was a chaotic situation as dozens of people in the area scattered,” The post reads.
The post goes on to say officers were able to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting quickly.
A woman at the scene told the officers she had driven to the bar to pick up her boyfriend when an unknown man approached her car.
When the woman’s boyfriend exited the bar, he saw the unidentified man, and the two began arguing.
The unidentified man walked away and got into a silver sedan with several other people. The silver sedan they purposefully crashed into the woman's car before driving away.
As the sedan drove away, someone inside the vehicle fire fired at least five shots.
The woman’s boyfriend was hit by the sedan but did not suffer serious injuries.
He left before speaking with the officers. Police say many others at the scene were intoxicated and unable to provide detailed information.
Lawrence police say the investigation is ongoing as they review security video collected as evidence from the scene.
