Tesla will now require its employees to install its improved self-driving technology in all of its vehicles.
Elon Musk, the CEO of the electric vehicle company, informed Tesla employees about implementing this “Full Self-Driving Capability” in its vehicles in a memo. FSD is an improved version of Tesla’s Autopilot technology, with Tesla owners able to receive the update for either $199 a month or as an upfront cost of $12,000.
“Going forward, it is mandatory in North America to install and activate FSD V12.3.1 and take customers on a short test ride before handing over the car,” Musk’s memo said, according to Bloomberg. “Almost no one actually realizes how well (supervised) FSD actually works. I know this will slow down the delivery process, but it is nonetheless a hard requirement.”
Musk also confirmed on X that all Tesla vehicles capable of running FSD will be given a one-month trial “this week.”
Customers will also be required to receive a demonstration of this self-driving feature before the car is sold to them.
The electric vehicle company ordered a remote software upgrade for most of its vehicles in the United States in December. The order was made after Tesla received complaints about its driver assistance features, which critics argued allows for driver misuse.

In January, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of over 200,000 Tesla vehicles after officials deemed the turning lights on them could hinder the visibility of drivers.
