WOODWARD – A Mooreland teenager injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday night, March 23, 2024, has died of his injuries.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol submitted their report late Monday night, which confirmed that the 17-year-old boy died Monday at 6:13 p.m. at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

The boy’s name has not been officially released because he is a juvenile.

At 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Jeremiah Z. Marvel Sr., 42, appeared unrepresented by an attorney in Woodward County Court. He was arraigned on a total of five charges; one count of first degree manslaughter, which has a minimum sentence of four years in prison and is a felony; three counts of DUI with great bodily injury – a felony, which includes a fine of $5,000 and imprisonment of four to 20 years; causing a collision without a valid driver’s license and great bodily injury – a felony, which is punishable by a sentence of up to five years in prison.

Marvel has an appointment to meet with a state provided attorney on April 16, 2024.

Marvel requested a Preliminary Hearing Conference at 9:30 a.m. on April 30, 2024.

Marvel’s bond was set at $200,000. As of Press time, Woodward County Jail staff reported that Marvel remains in custody. If he is able to make bond, his conditions for bond include:

1. No driving

2. No substance abuse

Marvel was arrested by OHP Troop I Trooper Austin Ellis in the early hours of Sunday, after first being admitted to Integris Woodward Hospital for injuries he had also sustained in the accident. The accident occurred a few minutes before midnight last Saturday.

He was released within a few hours of his admittance to the hospital.

According to the OHP report, the 2014 Charger containing the youths was making a U-turn on NS County Road 202, about halfway between E. County Road 45 and E. County Road 44, when the Nissan Armada driven by Marvel struck the Charger on the driver’s side.

According to the OHP Report, Marvel stated to law enforcement on scene that he had not seen the car making the turn. His condition is listed on the report as intoxicated.

The condition of the occupants of the charger are listed on the report as normal.

According to OHP Troop I Lt. Grant Arnold, the accident in still under an active investigation.

“We are out there with drones and other technology and this accident will likely be under investigation for a couple of months and certainly won’t be complete until we get the toxicology back,” Arnold said.
