Snow returns to the Cascades, rainy and cooler pattern ahead

This past week, spring began on Tuesday at 8:09 p.m., when the direct rays of the sun crossed the equator.  This is known as the Vernal Equinox and marks the beginning of the Astronomical Spring.  We had temperatures in the 70s for several days and plenty of sunshine.  That is now all in the past, as we are now experiencing a cooler and wetter regime. 

The highs Saturday will be in the middle to low 50s, along with off-and-on rain showers and mountain snow. There is an area of low pressure off the coast that will continue to provide Central Oregon with our wet weather.  Winds will be noticeable, but not overwhelming today, gusting into the low 20 mph range after the noon hour.  Snow will make travel through our mountain passes a bit slick and tricky, so prepare for wintry weather at times. 

There may be a slight chance for an isolated thunderstorm later this afternoon or evening. Those of you who are planning any outdoor activities, be aware that you may hear the rumble of thunder.  When thunder roars, go indoors. 

Sunday looks to be cloudy and cooler, with the mercury in the thermometer only reaching the upper 40s and low 50s.  Snow will still be possible over the crest of the Cascades, but only a few inches.  Lower elevations of, the High Desert, will see a passing shower, but nothing widespread is expected. 

Monday and the rest of the week will see mostly cloudy skies, along with some spotty showers.  The best chance for widespread rain holds off until Wednesday.
