Ray Charles “Chuck” Godfrey, III, age 54 of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Chuck was a life-long resident of Seymour and served his community for 28 years in fire service and retired as Chief. He served 10 years as County Commissioner and worked for 26 years banking in Sevier County. He was Past President of the Seymour Breakfast Rotary and participated in Leadership Sevier Class of 2020. Chuck coached and mentored many of his players through their football careers in Seymour. His legacy will live on in the memories we share.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Godfrey, Jr.; grandparents, Ray and Georgia Godfrey, Jesse and Cecil Underwood; and mother-in-law, Cheri Haga.
Chuck is survived by his wife Melissa; children, Madelyn and Tucker; mother, Judy Godfrey; brother, Bill and Regina Godfrey; sister, Lori and Brian Mathis; sister-in-law, Michele and Matt Ballard; nieces and nephews, Jordan Ballard (Taylen McNear), Reid Ballard (Tyler George), Danielle (Sam) Hodgson, Alex Godfrey; Julie, Keely and Brad Mathis, Wy’Yomi McNear, Levi and Violet Hodgson; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends 3-6:30 PM Monday at First Baptist Church-Seymour with funeral service to follow at 7 PM with Rev. Greg Wolfe and Rev. Corey Cain officiating. The funeral procession will leave Atchley Funeral Home, Seymour at 1:30 PM Tuesday for interment in Chilhowee Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com.
