CORYELL COUNTY, Texas (FOX 44) – An unsecure couch falls onto Interstate 14 and causes six crashes.

The Coryell County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday night that deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were working the crashes, which occurred between Clarke Road and Copperas Cove city limits. Travelers were asked to slow down and yield to all emergency vehicles. This area became very congested.

The Sheriff’s Office issued an update at 10:15 p.m. saying that I-14 was clear. The multiple crashes came as the result of an unsecured couch that landed in a lane of travel and was struck by multiple vehicles.

The Sheriff’s Office reminded the public that drivers are required by Chapter 725 of the Texas Transportation Code to secure cargo in a manner which will prevent the load from escaping. Failure to secure a load is punishable by a fine not less than $25 or more than $500.
