SAN ANTONIO - Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar announced today that the Bexar County Adult Detention Center (BCADC) successfully passed its annual inspection conducted by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS).

Inspectors visited the BCADC on March 12, 2024, for their unannounced inspection, concluding their work on March 14th. While the inspection revealed two minor areas for improvement, these were promptly addressed by jail staff, eliminating the need for further action from the TCJS.

During the inspection's out-briefing, Sheriff Salazar and Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai were informed of key positive findings:

  • Improved morale among both deputies and inmates since the last inspection.
  • Inmates reported satisfaction with access to medical care during their incarceration.
  • Increased facility cleanliness.
  • Well-organized agency documentation.
  • Continued progress by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) in overall jail conditions.

Sheriff Salazar expressed his appreciation, stating, "I'm extremely grateful to our command staff for continuing to raise the bar with high standards and clear expectations. I'm even more proud of the men and women of the BCSO who exceed expectations. This report is a testament to their hard work and dedication."

Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai commended the Sheriff's Office, saying, “I congratulate the Sheriff on passing the annual jail inspection. The joint effort of the sheriff’s department and Commissioners Court advocating for increased deputies' salaries and other initiatives has yielded positive outcomes. Our commitment to taking proactive measures in enhancing and upholding jail standards has produced the desired results.”
