ORLANDO, Fla. – During DeMeco Ryans’ first training camp with the Texans, he outlined why he liked joint practices: a controlled environment, quality work and the challenge of a different opponent on the field.
Ryans’ shared background with Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel with the San Francisco 49ers, strategy quirks and a lot of talented football players led up to the Texans hosting McDaniel’s team for joint practices in Houston.

And the Texans plan to host the Los Angeles Rams for joint practice sessions during training camp in Houston, per a league source.
The Texans will also face the Rams during the preseason. The timing of the practices is undetermined, but normally those kind of meetings are earlier in training camp. The Texans start camp early because they are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 1 to kick off the NFL preseason.
The Rams, coached by Sean McVay, are familiar to Ryans and a lot of his staff from their days competing against each other in the NFC West.
McVay is known for his background in the Mike Shanahan-Gary Kubiak offense.
The Rams’ offense features veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Puka, Nacua, one of the top rookies in the NFL last season.
