The Russell Group uni cities where student landlords are raking it in the most right now

Whilst your grotty room is full of mould and silverfish

| UPDATED

It’s no secret that landlords are one of the worst parts of society. Add a student landlord into the situation and you’ve got yourself a cocktail from hell. We’ve had countless cases of ceilings caving in student accommodation, pest problems, mould problems and for all this you’re paying extortionate amounts that your loan doesn’t even cover.

With student accommodation prices going up every single year, landlords are raking it in. But which Russell Group university city are student landlords making the most in?

The most expensive uni city is, no surprise London, where according to Natwest’s Student Living Index, a student room costs an average of £840.30  a month. If you lived in a five-bed student house, this works out to £4,201.50 a month and over £50,418 in profit a year just from one house. Then say your landlord owns three student houses, as a lot of them own more than one, this would work out at around £151,254 a year just so you can have a mould and silverfish-invested grotty room.

But the Russell Group city with the cheapest rent is Newcastle, where the average room costs £441 a month, closely followed by Sheffield at £473.30 a month. Up the north!

So these are the Russell Group uni cities where student landlords are raking it in the most:
