Watford Loan Young Striker To National League Outfit

Watford have sent 19-year-old striker Tobi Adeyemo out on loan for the remainder of the campaign, with the forward joining National League side Wealdstone.

Adeyemo featured four times in the Championship last season for Watford scoring once for the club in his first game against Blackpool. He has not featured for the Hornets since a 2-2 draw back in February 2023 against Reading.

The striker has missed a large part of the campaign through injury, with issues in both hips keeping him out for around eight months in total. He has been playing with the under-21 side since then to try and regain some fitness, and he will now get an opportunity to play senior football again during his loan spell.

Wealdstone announced the deal this evening, stating they had acquired the 19-year-old centre-forward on a deal that would last until the end of the season. The club announced the shirt number the Watford striker would be wearing, and suggested he could make his debut in tomorrow’s game against Oxford City.

“He’ll be looking to score next on his Wealdstone debut, which he is hoping to make tomorrow when the Stones travel to Oxford City on Good Friday. Tobi will wear the number 39 shirt and we’re looking forward to seeing him in National League action for the club.”

Adeyemo is not the first Watford player to join Wealdstone on loan, with former Hornets striker Britt Assombalonga also having a brief spell at Grosvenor Vale back in the 11/12 season, scoring six goals in 11 appearances.

The Stones currently sit 16th in the National League and have played the least number of games in the division. Adeyemo will have some competition for a starting place at his new club, with 23-year-old Sean Adarkwa currently sitting on ten league goals so far this campaign.

Wealdstone have picked up just one win in five games, and they were comfortably beaten by Altrincham in their last fixture away from home. They’ll be hoping that the signing of Adeyemo can get them back to winning ways.

Writer’s View

Adeyemo is a hugely talented footballer whose career took a dent when he picked up his double hip injury back in 2023. The decision to loan him for the remainder of the season is a smart one, as it allows him to slowly build his fitness back up, and come back in ready to go when pre-season starts up.

Joining Wealdstone is a huge challenge for a young striker, especially in the current position they are in the league, but it’s these type of challenges that can mould a player and improve them for the future. Adeyemo will be looking to hit the ground running tomorrow against Oxford City as the club look to get back to winning ways.
