The Routt County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Jeramie Alley welcomed this month the latest K-9 officer to the team, a 2-year-old Labrador retriever named Bella. The new canine officer has been trained as a narcotics K-9.

Bella will take on the job of K-9 Murray, a Belgian Malinois, who will retire soon after seven years of service.

Murray joined the Sheriff’s Office two years after the agency received its first drug dog, Boomer. Private donations allowed the Sheriff’s Office to acquire Murray.

Six K-9 enforcement and security teams from across Moffat, Routt and Garfield counties utilized Moffat County High School as a training ground during spring break in mid-March. Read more and see photos from that training in the Craig Press.
