63-year-old dead after car strikes tree in Bowie County

BOWIE COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – A 63-year-old man is dead after striking a tree Thursday night on FM 561, five miles northwest of Simms.

According to a preliminary DPS report, a 2016 Subaru Forester was traveling west on the road, “failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and exited the road and struck a tree.”

Officials reported the driver was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 63-year-old Richard Stahl of Simms.

The report said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
