Dauphin County school bus driver admitted to downloading child porn: court docs

A Dauphin County school bus driver charged with child porn possession last week admitted to downloading and viewing the images when investigators showed up at his home, police wrote in court documents.

Before his arrest on Thursday, Philip S. Fry, 56, was a bus driver for First Student Bus Services, where he transported children in the Steelton/Highspire School District to various private schools in the Harrisburg area, according to police.

Fry was charged with disseminating photo/video of child sex acts, child pornography, and criminal use of a communication facility. He was released from custody after posting $50,000 bail.

An affidavit of probable cause provided the following account:

Photos and videos of child sexual abuse were traced through an IP address to a home on the 1100 block of Oberlin Road in Lower Swatara Township. The images were downloaded this month, as well as in November 2023, according to court documents.

Derry Township police served a search warrant at the home on Thursday and met Fry, who agreed to answer some of the investigators’ questions.

Fry admitted to downloading and watching the pornography, which included images of children in sexual acts with animals, court documents said.

The affidavit said Fry directed investigators to his computer in the home’s basement and said he was the only person with access to the computer.

Online court records show a preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 3 in front of Magisterial District Judge Michael Smith.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about Fry and any alleged abuse to call the Derry Township Police Department at 717-534-2202 or the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office at 717-780-6767.
