Mobile man pleads not guilty in shooting at local apartment complex

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The man accused of shooting another man to death at a Mobile apartment complex earlier this week pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Thursday.

Alec Tran, 25, of Mobile, is charged with murder in the death of 24-year-old Aeron Lao on Sunday at the Bel Air Apartments off Cottage Hill Road and Bel Air Boulevard.

Mobile police say investigators learned Lao and Tran knew each other and were involved in an argument just before the shooting.

A judge on Thursday set Tran’s preliminary hearing for next month.

Tran has a bond hearing scheduled Friday, according to jail records.
