It's the Lord's doing! Nyange says on appointment to Appeals Tribunal

Newly appointed member of the Communications and Multimedia Appeals Tribunal, Patience Nyange has said that she is committed to justice for media and the people of Kenya.

In a statement, Nyange described the appointment as 'beautiful' and a testament to God's doing.

She went on to thank the ICT CS Eliud Owalo and the government for the faith they have in her to deliver on the role.

"I am delighted to announce my appointment to Kenya's Communications and Multimedia Appeals Tribunal. My sincere gratitude to Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo and the Government of Kenya for their trust.

"I am committed to justice for the media and the public. Thankful for this opportunity. Excited to work with the Chairperson and fellow members. It's the Lord's doing and it's beautiful," Nyange said on X.

On Monday, CS Owalo in a special gazette notice dated March 25, appointed Nyange a member of the Communications and Multimedia Appeals Tribunal.

She will serve in the Appeals Tribunal for the next three years.

Nyange was appointed alongside six other members, including Rosemary Wacera Kuria who will be the Tribunal's chairperson.

Others are Vivienne Namadoa, Manyura Tiberius Nyangau, Ruth Okowa, Timothy Toroney and Samson Wambua Kitonyi.

Their mandate began on March 22, 2024.

The Communications and Multimedia Appeals Tribunal (CAMAT) is established under Section 102 of the Kenya Information and Communications Act 1998.

It has both original and appellate jurisdiction.

Its original jurisdiction includes hearing and determination of complaints by any person aggrieved by; any publication by or conduct of a journalist or media enterprise; anything done against a journalist or media enterprise that limits or interferes with the constitutional free freedom of expression of such journalist or media enterprise; or any action taken, any omission made or any decision made by any person under the Act.

Nyange's appointment come barely a week after IGAD announced that it tapped on her expertise to further strengthen its communication across the globe.
