Missing man's remains believed to be in pond, Yell County sheriff says

The Yell County sheriff believes that the man's remains are in a pond, but "certain environmental conditions" are preventing them from recovering the body.

YELL COUNTY, Ark. — The Yell County Sheriff's Office is believed to have found the remains of Dan Gibson, who went missing in October 2022.

According to Yell County Sheriff Nick Gault, deputies, handlers from the Quapaw Nation K-9 Search Team, representatives from the Morgan Nick Foundation, Sebastian County Search and Rescue, and numerous volunteers from local fire departments conducted a search of a property between Ola and Plainview regarding the missing person case.

Gault said that based on evidence found at the scene, Gibson's remains are believed to be in a pond located behind his residence and that "certain environmental conditions" are "preventing the recovery of those remains."

"Our deepest condolences go out to the Gibson and Hemberger families," Gault said. "Our sincere thanks to those who labored to bring them answers."

Additionally, Gault said the family wishes for him to "remain at peace in a place that he loved."

Gibson's cause of death is still unknown.
