JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) -- On Thursday, March 28 the Southern Tier Composite Squadron held an awards and promotion ceremony at the Greater Binghamton Airport to honor cadets and adult volunteers.

The Civil Air Patrol is a non-profit organization for the purposes of youth development, aerospace education, and to promote general aviation.

Several cadets were awarded for their achievements in the air patrol along with cadets being recognized for a promotion in rank.

12 News spoke with second lieutenant Lily Emmond with the air patrol about what this program has done for her life.

”This has really increased my confidence and my social skills, and I have just increased as a better person. I’ve gotten to do many different things that people my age have never been able to do. I’ve flown a plane; I’ve been to a military encampment.” said second lieutenant Lily Emmond

After the ceremony, an open house and information session took place for those interested in the civil air patrol.
