The Hurricanes’ 2024-25 roster is starting to take shape.

Following the news on Thursday that guard Nijel Pack will return for next season, Miami announced the signing of Virginia Tech center transfer Lynn Kidd.

“We are extremely happy to have Lynn join us because he is an incredibly gifted offensive scorer around the basket and who I considered the most improved player in the ACC this past season,” UM coach Jim Larrañaga said in a press release. “He has put in the work to take his game to the next level. His work ethic is unmatched and he will bring maturity and four years of ACC experience to our team.”

Kidd is an ACC veteran, spending one season at Clemson before transferring to the Hokies and playing for Virginia Tech the last three seasons.

In 2023-24, Kidd averaged 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds, and his .668 field-goal percentage is tops in the ACC.

Kidd, who is listed at 6-10, brings much-needed size to Miami’s roster. Last season, the Hurricanes’ tallest starter was guard Kyshawn George, who is 6-8. Guard Matt Cleveland and forward Norchad Omier are 6-7.

Miami’s roster next season will look significantly different. George and Omier may declare for the NBA draft, and five players — starting guard Bensley Joseph and four reserves, A.J. Casey, Michael Nwoko, Jakai Robinson and Christian Watson — intend to enter the portal.

“During this next month, (we will) just try to sign for our needs,” Larrañaga said on March 18. “So we need a guard, we’ve got to try to sign a guard. If we need bigs — which we obviously do — we just don’t have very many big guys. It’s been one of the things we were able to overcome for two years in a row by staying healthy. This year, with all the injuries, we just weren’t.”
